John Kerry will visit AMLO on Wednesday to discuss climate change and renewable energy.
John Kerry, special envoy for climate change from the United States, will travel to Mexico this Wednesday where he will meet with President Andrés Manuel López Obrador to discuss climate change and renewable energy.
The State Department reported in a brief statement about Kerry's trip, just as the Chamber of Deputies analyzes López Obrador's electricity reform initiative .
The Biden government has expressed concerns about said reform due to the possible effects on renewable energy.
“The Special Presidential Envoy for Climate, John Kerry, will travel to Mexico City on February 9, 2022 to interact with his counterparts in the Government and accelerate cooperation on the climate crisis. This includes opportunities to expand renewable energy generation, to create a sound investment climate, to combat methane pollution, to transition transportation to zero emissions, and to end deforestation. Secretary Kerry will meet with President Andrés Manuel López Obrador," the US State Department said in the document.

Kerry's trip will come three weeks after US Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm will also visit Mexico and meet with López Obrador to address the issue of electricity reform.
Last October, John Kerry visited Mexico and was with López Obrador to learn about the “Sembrando Vida” program. During his visit to Palenque, Chiapas, he witnessed the progress of said program and at the time recognized the president's efforts to address these challenges.
